After watching this film, I can feel that how powerful and dangerous the Digital Existentialism is. However, I think it is not good for our future in some ways. Artificial intelligence is the intelligence exhibited by machines or software. If it was existed, then it will interrupt everyone’s life, even make human stop thinking and stop communicating because they will all get used to AI. Although there are some advantages like nothing in the world will never in short supply and everything is ready for digital consumption, will people accept this? I believe this is very pessimistic. This Digital Existentialism is very powerful to collect all the data from people’s computers and telephones, etc. If it collect more and more technology and resources, there is no more privacy between human and more importantly, it will mostly happen human crisis. It is never a good news that Digital Existentialism replace human being.

I think we don’t realize how dependent we are on technology. Everything you need in online now and we get inpatient when we have to wait for anything. No one is ever to far from some form of technology. There are good points, we can talk to people from around the world and see them. You can shop all day and night because nothing is closed, you can bay bills online. We can do everything, which is also a bad thing because we don’t interact with people anymore. People are less willing to go out and do something if you can do it online. I think its a bit pessimistic to think the world will be eaten up by technology because I think people are realizing that there is a world outside of the digital one.

"The flickering screen that never shuts off." Very powerful statement, and specially when our younger generations are becoming hopelessly devoted to technology and digital interaction unlike previous generations. Great film, it brings various subjects to mind that us, as humanity will soon face and determine our existence for future generations ahead. For example, the human mind is little by little leaving the organic existence into a digital adaptability;thus, it is making our need to think and pursue perfection an obsolete thought by the commodities of technology. Albert Einstein even feared the day when technology will surpassed our human interaction; however, it brings a question in mind, if we as humans have always sought ways to evolve, isn't this new technological realm a new frontier that we ought to follow? If the process of evolution, or the need to evolve is in our nature, should we not be fearful to digital existentialism? Homo erectus discovered fire for needs of protection, in the 1800's we invented the light-bulb to expand that need to protection to new devices, in the 90's that spark gave birth to the internet and revolutionized the human mind..isn't a digital and enhanced mind the next process of our evolution?

The film, Digital Existentialism, discusses artificial intelligence and intelligence augmentation. I believe it is important to continue to advance our world and discover new things. There are advantages and disadvantages to intelligence augmentation. Intelligence augmentation can provide jobs to nearly everyone since the people will have just great knowledge. Though, if we are to ever get to a future with intelligence augmentation, then that may mean that human experiments have occurred. However, in my opinion, I feel that intelligence augmentation will be somewhat immoral. Although, it is said that we are already at the verge of getting there due to our current technology, the smart phones, social media, and apps. Similarly to intelligence augmentation, there are advantages, as well as disadvantages to artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can help the people to better the world. For example, sending people to space is a risky thing and instead of risking the lives of others, we can maybe send an artificial intelligent machine to space. However, many feel that once there is artificial intelligence the machines will start to overtake us. For instance, artificial intelligence may take over jobs and people will become unemployed. I believe there will be a future with either intelligence augmentation or artificial intelligence, but I don’t believe we are there just yet.

Digital Existentialism encompasses how far we've come technologically and how quickly we keep moving forward. The film states "[Digital Existentialism]...where meaning and purpose are without direction...We have sacrificed our privacy for never ending company and in return we became the flickering screen that never shuts off." I watched this film 3 times. It struck me eerily as I reflected on how true it is. Technology, where it has definitely offered certain benefits has done so at a very high price that I fear will haunt us in the future. I've always been a conspiracy theorist anyway, so the thought that no matter how much privacy I try to maintain, I know my information is out there. It is scary to think that potentially anyone could look me up and obtain very intimate details of my life. I also wonder about the term "Augmented Intelligence." With everything at our fingertips, (we will definitely have access to more information), what other abilities will we begin to lose? For example, because of texting, kids are growing up lacking personal social skills. The idea of technological advances like microchipping, (which many people around the world are already endowed with) will we lose the ability to remember simple mechanical functions like turning a key or dialing a phone or operating a car? What happens if the technology goes awry? I'm grateful for certain technology, but overall I believe that the human race has become overly dependent on it and it will come back to haunt us one day.

After watching this film, it is scary to see what may happen with technology in the future. This video shows how far technology has come, and where it is expected to go. It is scary to see how much technology controls our lives now and how it may control it even more in the future. It is clear to see how technology is affecting us as we have the power to know everything just minutes after it has happened. We are able to share things with people all over the world, nothing is private. Now, we have information at the press of a button and it is changing how we study for school as well. It is rare to see someone look up information in a library because all the information is right on their smart phone. This generation is growing up lacking social skills and I feel it will only get worse with time.

After watching this film its really an eye opener to what technology has become and how dependent we are on technology. That we use these apps on our phones that nothing will be private we constantly share our information with strangers on the web. we have all of our personal accounts at our finger tips, we can access anything we want through the web through our phones. Seeing the younger generation using the technology better than the elderly is quiet amazing but it also shows of how dependent the younger generations are going to be with dealing with technology. that the flashing screen will be portraying to the future generations that won't be able to survive without technology. Even though I think technology is an awesome thing but also can be dangerous of not knowing how to experience certain things without technology. Or even today people have a hard time interacting with one another because they do it all on their phones not like back in the day you acutely had to go up to a girl and ask her out personally now we just do that through the apps we have on the phone or just simply just text.

After watching the clip I was appalled at the reality it made me aware of. From what I’ve observed we have in fact become engrossed in technology and rely on it every day. From paying bills, entertainment, socialization, to taking online courses we truly are becoming one with technology. I completely agree that “the future will not so much shock us as absorb us” because as we continue to develop in this era of technology we create more and more ways of merging technology with ourselves. Lastly, I think the lack of privacy that comes with the development of technology will become problematic as people’s lives become more and more publicly available.

The film illustrated the problems of artificial intelligence. I really appreciate the clip since I do not realize the potential hazards arose from the “digital existentalism” until I watched the film. Nowadays, people heavily rely on the virtual platform in their daily lives. It reminds me the film I watched a year ago - “Her”. It was about a man who date with a “virtual girl”. The girl was created by the computer system. At the very beginning, the protagonist just talked to her as a friend. As the time passed, he had a relationship with the “girl”. She was even asked the protagonist to have sex with her. It sounds totally ridiculous. But the movie alerted us the consequences, or the ethical issue, if we indulge in the virtual world.

The term 'Fused generation' from the video is great wording for how society is living today. Everything we do, is announced online for the world to see and millions of people depend on science and technology daily. You never really know what you're getting into on the internet, people will try to paint a different image of themselves and can be who they want online so those things can be deceiving. We definitely have already hit the point where everyone is connected through the web. Anything we question, can be answered right away with the touch a finger and I can see how that might take away the wonder from things or make privacy a huge issue. On the other hand, If everyone had access to the web, we could potentially see a rise in the intelligence of humankind. The quote in the film 'Where meaning and purpose are without direction' leads me to think that the worry and fear stems from the fact that not enough people understand science and technology. Technology is moving at a rapid pace and if society doesn't keep up with understanding it, we won't know who is making the decisions about it and it will fall into the laps of people in power and that is where things can go wrong or bad decisions can be made. Most politicians don't have a background in science or technology but will end up making the decisions for the public. We need to be educated in these things, otherwise we won't be the ones running it, it will run us. We live in a democracy and the people need to make the ultimate decision on where science and technology go but that requires the public understanding science and technology. I don't think it needs to be looked at so pessimistically because if the people have the ultimate decision on where technology goes then we can prevent the things we fear and push technology onto the path that will benefit us. Any kind of change is uncomfortable at first and even more so when we don't understand because we will only focus on the cons. I believe if we have control and fully understand these things, we won't have as much to fear.

It is true that today's generation is in fact always in some way connected to the web. Technology has enable people to access information but it is still up to the person how they interpreter and use this information. While Augmenting intelligence is a nice concept its limiting factor is the human brain. Contrary to Artificial Intelligence it will not be bounded it will be able to access a vast network of information and process all this information in matter of seconds it will be self-sustaining. Moore's Law demonstrates that the processing power of computing hardware will double every two years while a human brain has limitation to processing information. That being said Augmenting Intelligence is a step toward Artificial Intelligence. The real question once Artificial Intelligence is achieve how will it interact with human and how will society deal with the emergence of AI.

When I was in high school, I used a library to do research projects or read new books, but now I can access more information at home than using a library in early 2000’s. I believe that our technology has evolved a lot more than last thirty years, and more people are exposed to these new technologies than ever including internet access. People do not need to talk to each other to find out how their friends are doing. The patterns of traveling have changed as well. When I traveled in my teenage years, I spent most time looking at sceneries, talking to people whom I traveled with, listening to music, or sleeping. And those traveling memories were shared among a person whom traveling with, but it is different now. Most people spend a lot of time taking pictures and posting them on internet and want to show a world what he or she is doing instead of sharing those moments with people around him or her. I agree to what a narrator said in the video that this kind of action puts our privacy in a risk, and a moment we post pictures on internet, you are willing to share your privacy with people you don’t even know. Even though a narrator mentioned that we already ate a forbidden fruit, I believe we still have a chance to learn how to use technologies right, so we will not be absorbed into technology and instead use them wisely.

It is intense to know, "how in the past 30 years all the computers combined could not be as fast at the phone we hold in our hands now a days." This interesting thought of how the world will transform into an A. I. realm is stunning to the generation of now. Many of us pay no attention to the movement of technology but are easily absorbed into the stream of it because of society. It is scary to know that we all share pictures, thoughts, and etc with strangers because of the way technology lets us use it. In my thought robots with human needs would be interesting just like Irobot and HER showed fans that many things that we as humans can create can become powerful by the second because of the no lag period of knowing and not.

This video reminds me of the concepts presented in the transhumanism movement. One proponent of transhumanism, that I have read about, is Nick Bostrom. He advocates an acceptance in technologically advancing the human race as well as presents the issues that he presumes will challenge the human race (ethics & artificial intelligence, existential risks, and super-intelligence are among the many topics he writes about). In this video, digital existentialism, I see a way humans can evolve, but like all change, it will not be without hardship and error. Many tasks can be performed digitally (banking, communication, business, gaming; almost every physical aspect can be expressed in a digital form) that many people overlook the vast capabilities of a computer or "smart" device. Overall, if humans learn how to eventually upload consciousness into the digital realm (or like in the video when it states "absorbs us"), the most important aspects I believe will be in light of ethics, legal considerations, and what exactly this means for all of humanity as a whole.
