1. Why is understanding pysicss and the genral rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Understanding physics and the general rules of the universe is important when doing philosophy because it allows your brain to expand it’s thought beyond emotions, values, and beliefs. It allows you to think deeper about theories and understand why certain things are the way they are. Physics is the basic rules of the universe. Philosophy helps you think more critically while physics helps you think more scientifically. The string theory both is an idea based off of philosophy and physics. The book, Quantum Weirdness, it presents Einstein vs. Bohr, their debate over the implications of quantum theory based off of Heisenberg’s principle. Einstein and Bohr were both physicists and can also be considered philosophers. Physics and philosophy can be studied separately but work well together. Philosophy is the overall critical thinking while physics goes deeper in with more detail. “Quantum theory calls into question the very process of how we know things (Diem-Lane, P.1). Physics and philosophy helps us understand how the world works.
2. What is eliminative materialism?
Eliminative materialism is a consciousness phenomena based on that you start with an idea and eliminate the processes until you find the one that best explains it. My first example is an idea cannot be solved through mathematics that it will go next to physics, then to chemistry, biology, psychology and sociology. If none of these subjects can explain it, the answer is “God did it.“ My second example is Thor. Philosophers used to base their theories on beliefs of ancient Gods. Once physics, astrology, and chemistry advanced, so did philosophers. They no longer used ancient ideas and instead used new technology to base their opionons on an updated phenomenon. My third example is intelligent reductionism. As a materialism explanation evolves overtime, it will help us better understand certain events in our body, mind, and in our society by eliminating old ideas. Eliminative materialism is reason at large.
