1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how humans behave?
Charles Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection is the key mechanism behind how humans operate. His theory believed that humans who are strong would survive longer. The strong will outlive the weak. Evolution is based off of the acronym V.I.S.I.T.E.D.: Variation, Inheritance, Selection, Including, Time, Equals, Design. We are the result of a bling watchmaker. Darwin’s theory describes that our complexity can rise with no guidance what so ever. That explains why no body is perfect. They are scientifically structured but all different. A good example of Natural Selection is the book, The Hunger Games. Evolution has undergone changes for millions of years. With advanced technology we have learned what to do and what not to do. For example, in the 19th century the life expectancy was 50 years old. In the 21st century it has risen to over 80. In learning from our ancestors’ mistakes we have revolutionized our future. If we did not know how humans behaved then we could not have made these changes for our future. This is why it is so important to understand how humans behave.
2. Which theories do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
The main theory Evolution cannot answer is religion. There are many religions to this day that swear by their beliefs. How can one single religion be correct if we all believe out own religion is right? Even with out real “proof” as to if God really exists, millions of people still believe anyways. In the video “To Be or Not to Be”, it explains that suicide is a person’s own value on their life and if it their life is worth it. Evolution cannot answer why people have the need to kill themselves. Suicide is an emotional decision that cannot be turned into scientific thinking. Shakespeare’s most famous quote from Hamlet, “to be or not to be, that is the question”, perfectly describes the questioning of if evolutionary theories can be answered or not.
