1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
Darwin’s theory of evolution has change societies’ outlook on the origins of human beings. Before this revolutionary theory most civilization took a more mystical approach to explaining the origin of human. This mystical approach was religion and god which were used in a variety of ways to explain how human came into being. This is an example of eliminative materialism the idea of learning that there is no mystical explanation to human origin, but years of natural selection and adaptation of living species. It is fundamental to understand that humans are a product of natural selection and at our core are mammals. Human behavior at its core has two key feature fight or flight response which have allow us to continue to survive and enable us to continue to reproduce and pass on our genetic information. Nature has manipulated the wiring of the human brain through a distinct set of chemical reaction and trigger desires, emotion, apatite, and so forth. Additionally, Darwin stated, “I see open fields for far more important researches. Psychology will be based on a new foundation that of the necessary acquirement of each metal power and capacity by gradation. Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history.” (23) Darwin predicts that his theory will yield further lines of inquire of that of the human mind.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
Evolutionary theory can explain everything with time. Human biology, medicine, neurology, and genetics are areas were scientists are making strides which contribute to better understanding human mind and body. For example, Professor Diem-Lane’s The DNA of Consciousness goes into detail on how consciousness has been a factor in human survival. Dr. Dien-Lane states, “Consciousness is a way around pure change by developing an internalized map of probabilities which can be visualized internally without having to be outsourced prematurely.” (27) Consciousness a virtual simulators were the human mind can imagine outcome of certain situation and improve decision making in the real world. Reminiscent of Einstein’s thought experiments which help him develop his noble prize theories. Human imagination ignites their curiosity which leads to question and eventually to answers. Therefore the more time we have to contemplate our universes and the way it works the more questions will be answered.
