Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
When doing philosophy it is important to understand physics. This is because physics is the study of the natural and material world, where philosophy is the study of nature, causes, and principles of reality. By this I mean that physics studies what something is made of and philosophy is the understanding and reasoning behind what it exactly is going on. For example as described in the book “Is The Universe Really Made Of Tiny Rubber Bands?” The physics of string theory is that everything is made up of strings. The philosophy of string theory is that the way the strings are vibrated can cause different forms of matter to be created.
What is eliminative materialism? Provide three examples of it.
All our prior knowledge is based on old myths and what we believed was from the gods. Now that our technology and understanding of what everything is we can eliminate the gods and take in a more philosophical explanation of everything. This new understanding of how something is when explained from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology or another form of study this is eliminative materialism. For example for centuries we had believed that thunder was from the god Thor but now we understand that it is an electrical magnetic current. The explanation for diseases went from spirits to bacteria and viruses. We even use terminology from the gods to describe our emotions like anger, love, desire, and free will than a nueroscientific explanation.
