1. Why is the theory of evolution so important to understanding how human beings behave?
The theory of evolution is the most important ideas in human history. In “The DNA of Consciousness” Professor Diem-Lane describes it as a historical record of humans and how we have successfully made it here today. We have realized that certain desirable genetic mutations have helped people survive and reproduce to pass that gene along for generations. Evolution is a story about how humans have adapted to certain living conditions and what genetic/behavioral traits made it possible. The idea now is that self aware consciousness is part of evolution to help survival by giving humans the ability to play out scenarios in our minds to decide which decisions are best for our survival.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
The theory of evolution does give us plenty of answers about life but it cannot answer every question humans have. It gives us an idea of how life has progressed but it does not have definite answers for how life begun in the first place. Where did life come from and what does the future hold for humans? The beginning of life and future of it are not answered by evolution but it does offer a trend of how life progressed and gives us some history leading back to simpler life forms. It does not give us exact answers of where we came from and where we are going.
