1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
Neuro Science states that the brain is simulator. In the book, Is the Universe an App states, “what we see, hear, touch, and smell are the results of how our central nervous system processes both external and internal stimuli and then reconstructs a virtual environment in which we react accordingly”. Dreaming is an example of how the brain uses these traits into making up a world in our mind. Consciousness gives us a higher brain function that allows us to display a series answers for different situations. It is in fact the power of our consciousness that lets us decide what is real or fake in the world that we live in. As stated in the video Disneyland Consciousness, “consciousness is a fantastic virtual simulator and because of its inclusivity and insular engineering it has an inherit tendency to believe its own imaginations as exterior to itself, and not as the byproduct to its own interiority".
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
The brain has many ways to trick us into believing in something. It is these thoughts and tricks that allow us to continue to survive in this world. As stated in the video Brain Burn, “By developing a statistically deep understanding of what options portend it is the best way to survive chance contingencies.” The Neuro system is the core center that allows for Consciousness to develop and imagine these different worlds. A quote I like from one of the videos was, “being within survives. Being without tends to end up dead.” This quote to me explains that many humans try to figure out the best results in their mind creating any varieties of worlds and by establishing these thoughts gives us the human the power to make them real until we execute the though thus killing all others. “Consciousness is a virtual simulator that is needed for human survival”
