Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
I think that artificial intelligence will be a significant problem to us as it is already being a problem for us today. Everything the internet offers us and our younger siblings today are forcing our children to grow up faster that they are psychologically and mentally prepared for. For instance the anything that we have a question for can be easily accessed online simply asking Google. Children who do not understand they own anatomy know more about sex than they understand it. Its mind boggling to wrap your brain around the idea that artificial intelligence is ruining our children’s and younger generations innocence. If artificial intelligence is outsmarting and is faster than human intelligence in the future we won’t need humans to do certain jobs that they do today, which eventually will leave many without jobs. Jobs and other resources will not be available for us if robots with artificial intelligence are created can do the tasks. Although humans are responsible for artificial intelligence I truly believe that it will eventually control us. For instance social media and our phones, something we humans create cannot live without. We feel incomplete and have a bad day if we go without these tools.
Many students on the forum for this week argue that artificial intelligence will not be able to replicate or mock emotions and feelings that we humans have. But I must argue against this claim because in some senior homes in Japan they have and continue to create robots that mock human emotions to help lonely senior feel loved and allow them to know what they say continues to be important. If humans have created such thing I could also argue that eventually we won't need human contact or need someone to talk to if a robot that is capable of doing this for free can on a daily basis.
How has technology impacted your life?
People are allowing technology to evolve around their everyday lives. Technology is a lifestyle for so many individuals that it is imaginably impossible to live without their phones or computers. Technology has done both good and bad in my own life. Before iphones and androids cell phones were not an issue like they are today. My relationships with my friends and family were stronger, but because of so many distractions from technology it feels as if no one really listens to what you have to say. It seems that when I go visit my best friend across the state isn’t as important as it once was. We go out to lunch and instead of catching up she is on her cell phone texting other friends and updating her FB status. And when I hang out with my significant other we will lay on the same bed and instead of talking to each other we are checking our friends Instagram and listening to music on our ipods. I sometimes question if anyone even cares about one another anymore. I feel that technology has created a false reality and a huge distraction for everyone we know around us. Technology has impacted my life in a good way because it allows me to stay connected with friends through social media who live outside the country and state. It has allowed everything that I question to be looked up and have access to the answers with a click of a button. The film “The Codex Funeral” sums the good in technology in one sentence. It states, “ The book of the future that we are now getting a glimpse of on Apple’s ipod and other illuminating android devices is hypertext. All text all images all sounds al, films all games and all inter activities accessed in the speed of light, and in the palm of our hands and in our visual and auditory fields.”
