1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
After reading the book of How Socrates Died, I saw Socrates has his own believe in morality, justice, truth, and soul. Regardless of drinking poisonous hemlock for death, Socrates believes that dying is only going to release him to a better life. He was not fear of death even though he was held for two major charges against him. The two charges are, first, his does not believe in Gods recognized by the state, and second, he had corrupted the Athenian youth by teaching something that the Athens did not approved of. Noted that Crito tried to help Socrates escape but Socrates refused to do so. He did not confess on the court because he knew he did not do anything wrong except for having ideas that are not accepted by the Athenian systems. He did not defend for himself because he believes that the truth will eventually will speak itself. He chose death instead.
2. Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
When science and religion are contributed to be proven in explaining something, conflict might occur for some people. On one hand, science tended to be someone’s scientific theory of how things are created or transform, and perhaps give others more understanding of the nature. On the other hand, religion is spiritually believed in God creation. ‘’The limit of our skull will limit our understanding.’’ Eventually, there is limitation on our skull and science explained in the video of The Limits of Science: Illuminated Ideas in 56 seconds. The one argument made between religion and science is the creation of human. Christians believe that God created the universe, and the first human he created were Adam and Eve. However, science in its own way is tracing back mysteries to the Big Bang theory and the evolvement of human being.
