Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates is one of the most famous philosophies in the classical Greek. Also, he is the founder of Western philosophy. However, he was sentenced to death when he was in 70 years old. Socrates was accused of two charges; the first one is he believes other Gods in his city and the second is corrupted the youth. Religion was really important in classical Greek; everyone respected and obeyed their God in the city. Socrates tried to better understand that, and he always believed what he believed. Socrates gave many questions about people’s belief, and the youth found that Socrates’ idea were very interesting and intelligent. Socrates shared his idea to the youth. His idea and thinking were attracted by a lot of youth. The city found that Socrates was a threat, and if Socrates continued to do it, people would turnover their belief and rule. So, the city decided to put Socrates to death.
Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
In my opinion, there is a conflict between science and religion. Science is basic on people’s research and experiment. For example, the scientist found that human being is evolved from ape long time ago because scientists study the DNA of ape, and they find that the DNA of ape is similar with human. Also, there were some research to prove how ape became human. Therefore, the scientists collected the information to make the conclusion of the evolution of man. On other hand, religion is basin on people’s belief and it is in people’s heart. Christian believe that God create human being. However, there is no scientific basis to prove that. Why still have bunches of Christian believe God create human being? I am not a Christian, but I have studies in a Christian school for three years. I asked my Bible teacher that God is in real. If not, why you still believed God was existed? He told me “if I keep believe in God, God is existed all the time. Also, I would feel it in my future.”
