-Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
Since we as humans are curious of our origins, it's only natural for us to ask, "why are we the way we are?" For me, the question was answered after taking an Anthropology class. I learned that humans have been undergoing evolution for millions of years and still are going through evolutionary changes. For example, bipedal locomotion (walking up-right)was adapted by early hominids to cover longer distances, use their arms for carrying things, and have a better view of predators. Unfortunately, this adaptation has given us a mechanically bad: back, knees, and legs. Furthermore, if it weren't for our ancestor's will to adapt physically, mentally, and ultimately genetically our lives would be completely different. In today's time, our evolution runs parallel to the advancements in technology. Are we as humans becoming brighter with our dependence on technology or less brighter?
-Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
With all due respect to anyone who believes in a higher power. The biggest question the evolutionary theory cannot answer is the relationship between people and their spirituality. Therefore, where does religion fit into the earth’s timeline? Also, if hominid fossils have been found from numerous regions of the world can religion call them a hoax? Is it biased to say that anyone's religion is the right religion or the wrong religion? Furthermore, I grew up in a Catholic home with a Mom, Dad, and two brothers. Through my childhood I would always ask myself, "If I were raised by wolves, would I believe or feel a higher power?" Truly, believing in a higher power promotes a healthy standard of life but, is it or will it change the way we evolve?
