1. Socrates was put to death for impiety and corruption of the youth. He believed, or rather didn't believe that there were was an existence of gods. He did not want to acknowledge the kind of gods his city considered truthful. People thought of Socrates as wrong because of his impious attitude toward the gods. Socrates is also being charged for corrupting the youth through his teachings. It seems to look unjust and unscrupulous to the public eye. Socrates defends himself by saying, “I do not corrupt the youth, or, if I do corrupt them, I do it undesignedly: so that in both cases you speak falsely. But if I do corrupt them undesignedly, for such involuntary offenses it is not usual to accuse one here, but to take one apart, and teach and admonish one. For it is evident that if I am taught, I shall cease doing what I do undesignedly.”
2. The conflict between science and religion is a never ending debate. To each of their own, I believe that they both have a sense of their own realities. I was raised in a Catholic household, and questioning the existence of god (or of a god) was something that was nonexistent and obvious to answer. Science can only go so far, and a lot of it is based on strictly proven facts. On the other hand, religion is spiritual and in its attempts to evaluate scientifically is a much more difficult task to prove as opposed to science. I find that the conflict between science and religion is also too far-fetched in that to prove that a higher power exists or simply believing that one does.
