1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death? Socrates was sentenced to death because he did not want to worship the Gods that his people did, the Greek. He introduced to the city many different Gods than they already knew. He failed to agree and acknowledge the Gods that his city had and therefore these acts were impious and frowned upon. He questioned many things and that ultimately led to this death sentence. He was also accused of corrupting the cities youth.
2. Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
They are two very contradicting opinions that feel like they are right and the other is wrong. Science tends to look at proof and also test theory’s over and over again, science likes to disprove itself because that is how answers are discovered. Religion is based on stories that have been passed on for thousands of years with the old and new testament. Science’s theory is that everything was made by one organisms in space. Religion says that there is a God that created two people and the rest is history. So why is their a conflict? Everyone has their convictions and some more than others, there will always be a conflict on how we came to live on this planet. Even if one side is proven 100 percent to be the real answer, there will always be skeptics and people with questions. As humans we are curious and like to question things to check their validity.

Patrick, as you mentioned science tells you every living thing was made out of a single cell in the beginning whereas religions especially Christianity believes that all things are made by God. This very fundamental argument between two cannot be resolved. Religions is faith based which does not require to be proved and science is based on empirical evidence which relies on facts and data. So as long as people has their conviction towards either religion or science, there will always be conflict between them.
