Week One
1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates was a well known philospher in Athens. He was charged and sentenced to his life for corrupting the youth and for denying the Gods. He taught the youth radical ideas, including Plato. He went along creating a new religion. He refused to recognize the Gods recognized by the state because he believed in something else. If found guilty, he would be killed. Three Athenian citizens; Euthyphro, Melitus, and Crito presented his case. Most Athenians turned against him due to his anti-democratic views. After three hours of being persectuted, the jury made their verdict. They found Socrates guilty of his charges. the Athenian law prscribed him to drink a cup of poison Hemlock. In doing so, Socrates killed himself by suicide in 399 B.C.

Many people seem to believe there is a very big controversial conflict between science and religion. People either believe God created everything or that science has a huge deal as to how everything turned out. Religion is a very personal belief that is usally a touchy subject for people to talk about. They tend to get defensive when being questioned. Ludwig believes their is a dilemma between the two but simply a misunderstanding of the words matter. Scientists can argue atoms can turn into anything. On page 5 of The Great Mystery, it argues that deponding what you add to an atom, you can turn it into anything you want. People are looking so hard for "evidence" as to which Earth is made up of. That is why it is the greatest mystery.
