Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
1. Philosophy is; in simple terms a way of thinking outside of the box about life. “The study of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life, etc.” (Meriam Webster) A science that is particularly misunderstood is quantum physics. Quantum physics is a section of physics that deal with the subatomic particles; such as the atom, nucleus, electrons, and protons. For a philosophical theory to be proven correct it must be tested by science. For example one could not make up a theory, such as drinking water is horrible for you. No one would believe this theory without it being tested and having a positive outcome. A theory would not be correct without a test from science to prove what the theory is saying. This is why the quantum theory is so controversial. If one cannot see what is happening how we know it is actually taking place. Without science philosophical theories could never be tested and have as much credibility as they do today.
What is eliminative materialism?
2. Eliminative materialism is the process in which if you can’t prove your phenomenon with mathematics you move on to physics and then biology and so on. This plays a role in philosophy also because when they are testing their theories they may have to use the eliminative materialism theory to find their answers. For example to try and explain consciousness eliminative materialism is used.
