1) Why is understanding evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
Humans behave in accordance with the command of the brain, which is an ever evolving creature/organism; in addition, one’s evolution is dependent on the environment it is living in. Human beings grow up in different parts of the world, which means they have experienced different forms of evolution. The transformation of the body parts, which are resulted from evolution, is to protect or to thrive oneself better. For instance, in the movie about Charles Darwin, the author mentions that a certain type of bird will develop very thick peak so that they will easily break the hard-cover seeds in their surrounding environments. Likewise for humans, we also develop some traits that are not necessarily good for the society, but these traits help protecting ourselves. For example, in some parts of the world where the climate and the surrounding is harsh, most of the people in the area would develop selfishness and aggressive altitude to treat each other. Although these are not good traits, but I believe it is the effect of evolution so that these people can still keep the food on their tables.
We can also use evolution to understand the biological features inside human bodies. HIV/ AIDS is one of the deadliest diseases on earth due to its viruses’ invulnerability. However, the movie Charles Darwin also reports that some people are even resistant to this kind of virus, although most of the people around them do not have that quality. Thus, this resistance is not something that human beings are already built with, but it is an evolutionary process. Therefore, understanding evolution is very important in understanding how humans behave biologically and also physically.
2) Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
I think the question that a lot of people wish to (but cannot ever) know is although they believe in evolution, but What, or Who was that to created/caused the first ever creature and BigBang 13.7 billion years ago. Evolution states that are always evolving to adapt to the new environment that we live, but from where/whom did the first creature evolve? There is one notion that Darwin said, which I do not believe is true, that something unconscious can become conscious. If this is true, then will the keyboard that I am typing on right now become a lively creature in a billion years from now?
The other question I think is important regards the DNA’s strange mutation. By strange mutation I mean the mutation that is not caused by the chemicals. Offspring is passed down by the genes of the parents, mutation, and natural selection by the environment. However, there are some people whose parents are completely fine and live a normal environment, but they still get deviations such as missing a finger. In this case, can evolutionist say that natural selection has “helped” these people because possessing five fingers is to excessive for human beings.
