1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
According to “The DNA of Consciousness,” “knowing the conditions from where we originally arose is a central key in understanding why we survive as we do in the present. Evolutionary philosophy is primarily concerned with understanding why HomoSapiens are philiosophical in the first place.” Understanding the genetics of why we ask “why” is supposed to shed light on how and why our ancestors beat the odds and survived to live another day unlike so many other species who were killed off or died due to illness, predators, natural causes, etc. Understanding the theory of evolution is helpful in the mere fact that by understanding how things work and how they have naturally evolved over time and due to certain circumstances, we can further our medical advancements (if that isn’t too redundant). For example, had we had the knowledge we have today regarding DNA and how it works its very possible that the Dodo bird may still be around today.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
The theory of evolution makes a lot of sense when it comes to explaining how organisms function and it provides very compelling arguments as to the origins of species. I still think there are at least a couple of questions the theory of evolution can’t answer- or at least I haven’t found satisfactory answers to. For example, if the earth did in fact form as a result of the Big Bang, what prompted it if it is assumed that there was absolutely nothing there for it to reasonably spontaneously “bang?” I understand that there is a HUGE debate between creationists and evolutionists but with all of science’s “theory of unknowns” isn’t it possible that ID made way for evolution? From the little that I know of the Bible, I remember a passage that states that a day to God is like a thousand years to us so isn’t it possible that that ever elusive (to us) electron was purposely designed that way? I was raised to believe in ID but I don’t discount or discredit evolution. I believe in natural selection or survival of the fittest, otherwise the dodo bird might still be around.
